The Three R’s – Resourceful
The second ‘R’ is for ‘RESOURCEFUL’.
There is a great belief in excellence – “We all have all the resources we need.” (NLP)
Operating from this belief is an empowering and ‘mindset shifting’ place to be. Now, let me be clear – this is a belief, a belief that we can all choose to have; it is not a fact.
Some of us are more blessed than others and will have differing skills and competencies, consequently some may be better placed to draw on theses resources and achieve more. However, the starting point of our attitude is based on our beliefs and will determine what we go on to achieve.
The most successful leaders I have worked with have been those who have been prepared to dig deep (the first ‘R’ resilience) look at all the possibilities, think around an issue, and explore different approaches. They draw on all the resources they have, both internally and externally.
Internal resources are knowledge, experience, and emotional energy. External resources are organisational processes, networks, and other people.
The really ‘savvy’ leader knows that it isn’t just what he or she knows, but who they know and what they know. They reach out to others for advice and guidance – for help. Which leads to another belief in excellence – “If someone can do it, then anyone can do it.” (NLP)
At times we are all backed into a corner, and faced with what seems like a limited number of options; if we focus on what possibilities for action there are, rather than what we cant do, we may come up with options that put us in a much better place.
